The Days of Cable TV is Over - Here Comes Apple TV!

In today's electronic world, the Apple Computer Company has managed to steal the spotlight from all the already established players of the industry with its recent innovation of iTunes and digital music. Subsequently, Apple's newest goal is to distribute Television to viewers in almost any part of the globe via online. With Disney and CBS alongside, Apple will be changing the game again in providing Television channels but with a much better customer service and fair trade practices. This plan is yet to be materialized but TV distributors like Time Warner and Comcast, that serve 90% of homes in the US are now starting to watch their backs.

Now, how will Apple distribute TV to the viewers? Is it the same way as how cable TV distribute - in bundles of channels? Well, letting Apple distribute it that way will not certainly upset the apple-cart for just about anyone. Actually, it is the way that Apple plans to do it. Selling bundles of channels is actually what made cable TV operators profitable. So, anyone who desires for even a single channel is compelled to subscribe the whole bundle of channels that mostly filled with unwatchable fluff. These channels that come in bundle can be mostly likely compared to the side B songs you also have to pay for when you buy an album before, as individual picks are still not available on digital downloads that time.

What the Apple company have in mind is when viewers are not compelled to buy bundles of channels to get the one they want; all the niche channels just like Fox's Fuel TV will have no choice but to increase their prices in order to make up for their loss or go out of business. Also, cable distributors would no longer gain tons of profits. If this is the case, it would be the end of their ruling days of unfair trade practices.

This kind of venture that the Apple Company is yet to undertake is already beginning to make a big impact in the industry. Time Warner, for example, is now cutting down their bundles of channels into smaller ones. All the major networks are behind Apple TV now and it should be on your Ethernet ports by early 2010. Major networks like CBS would certainly have nothing to lose by signing up. In fact, they would certainly gain from it. However, Fox would certainly be hit with loss along with its huge clutch of niche channels.

Cable TV has had its day of taking the lead. However, the subscription prices and the virtual 100% dissatisfaction from their captive customers paved their way to both success and failure. Aside from Apple TV, there are also other Internet businesses threatening cable-TV out there. Sony's PlayStation 3 consoles and their Internet-ready Blu-Ray players are capable of streaming TV shows now, and this could take off soon too. Perhaps, it's about time to give the old cable TV operator a pat on the back and an acknowledgement for a job poorly done.

Popular Las Vegas Hypnosis Shows

People will do anything when under the control of a hypnotist. This is what makes Las Vegas hypnosis shows so popular in that ordinary people will do the most outrageous and hilarious things without them even knowing it. These shows are unique among all types of Las Vegas entertainment.

Various hypnosis shows for mature audiences are also featured as parts of Las Vegas entertainment. "Dirty Hypnosis," which is at the Harmon Theatre at Krave at Planet Hollywood, is an ongoing show featuring professionals Terry Stokes and Michael Johns. These shows features all sorts of jokes and downright outrageous acts that are hilarious.

Another adult show is Anthony Cools' "Uncensored Hypnotist" show. Playing at the Anthony Cools Experience at Paris Las Vegas, this show hypnotized volunteers doing all sorts of bizarre and naughty things. It is a very popular show that tends to sell out well in advance. People who are clearly intoxicated are not allowed to be hypnotized during his show but he does include a night of fun indulgence for everyone watching the show.

Things to Do in Brisbane

Brisbane has a lot to offer re entertainment and attractions. Some of the hot favourites for families and kids include the alma park zoo with a zoo train and the lone pine koala sanctuary with 130 koalas. The koala sanctuary is the first and largest koala refuge in the world. The new farm park has 40,000 plants and several hundred sorts of roses, and the roma street parklands is the biggest sub-tropical garden in the world and is home to 1800 species of plants -- and not to mention the cruise on the Brisbane stream.

If you are looking for some adventure then the riverlife adventure center offers adventure sports like rollerblade sessions, kayaking, biking, and abseiling on the kangaroo cliffs. The story bridge journey climb is one of its kinds as it offers the chance to scale some of the classic bridges in Brisbane. Sprawling over a big sixty acres makes it feel more of a natural animal habitat than a confined zoo.

Hands on opportunities are also bounteous at the zoo.

As well as the many shows, there's a 24 hour animal surgery on site where you can watch as they doctor hurt or sick wildlife and nurse them back to health. Tiger temple was designed to resemble the cambodian angkor war temple, and offers underwater views of the animals. The asian elephant experience is a spectacular attraction with it's own swimming arena for observing the elephants at play. It's superb for a relaxing wander or for hands on animal experiences, whatever your mood could be.

While visiting Brisbane, the australia zoo is sure to be on your list to see. Stretching over a massive 60 acres makes it feel more like a natural animal habitat than a confined zoo. Hands on opportunities are also abundant at the zoo. You can cuddle on a koala or take a tasmanian demon for a stroll if you please.

The zoo hosts many promotional days across the year including youngsters free admission days. The asian elephant experience is a spectacular attraction with it's own swimming arena for observing the elephants at play.

While you're in Brisbane try taking a tour to tangalooma it can be a great side trip for your Brisbane or gold coast vacation. If you plan a tangalooma tour from the gold coast you can be back by dinner! It isn't one of those tours where you are cooped up within all day, be prepared for masses of fresh air!

Tangalooma is on moreton island and is usually reached by ship. The most typical way to get to there is on the tangalooma island resort launch which leaves daily from a quay on the Brisbane river close to Brisbane airfield.

The same launch is employed for those going on a tangalooma day tour. The day tours or day cruises usually leave the quay at about 10am getting into tangalooma by about 11.15am. The return launch is at 4pm which gives daytrippers lots of time to explore the resort, enjoy the monumental scenery and most likely even take up one of the other tangalooma tours on offer such as whale watching in winter or the dugong eco cruise which sets off in search of the famous moreton bay dugongs that feed on the seagrass.

If you plan a longer trip and stay over at the resort you may also participate in the famous wild dolphin feeding that goes on nightly all year. A pod of local wild dolphins come in for feeding and interactions with the locals. This is best enjoyed with an overnight stay.

Tucked into the southeastern corner of Queensland and sandwiched between 2 areas of unbelievably perfect, internationally famous beaches, Brisbane is the ideal place to use as a base camp for the final beach vacation. Nowhere else in the world can you find the cosmopolitan features of a giant city mixed with the incredibly breathtaking coastline that exemplify the Brisbane experience. Top all of that off with the famously welcoming locals, and you have truly got the makings of an once-in-a-lifetime adventure.

Thanks to its nearly subtropical climate, Brisbane is a great place to come to year round for its beaches. To the north lies the sunlight coast ; to the south stretches the inimitable gold coast. Or you can simply stay in the limits of Brisbane, enjoying the mild waves and golden beaches of moreton bay. For its picturesque layout alone, it is well worth it to spend an afternoon on the bay, approximately 20 mins from central Brisbane.

Dotted with many small islands, moreton bay has loads on offer visitors to Brisbane. By doing just a little of research, visitors can find many opportunities among these islands for snorkeling and scuba diving. Leasing a little ship and cruising round the bay is a superb way to discover out of the way beaches nestled into the sides of incredibly tiny islands.

In order to really experience what all of the excitement is about when it comes to Queensland's beaches, though, one must venture beyond the vicinity of Brisbane correct. As the nearest sunshine coast beach to Brisbane, caloundra beach is a good and convenient place to spend a day while touring in the region. Immensely favored by families, caloundra also offers many various options as far as beach attractions go, so it is bound to please everyone in your traveling party. From soaking in the sun to surfing in the tide, caloundra is a great place to get a feel for the beaches near Brisbane.

To take in a swankier locale, try heading up to noosa's beach. Bordered by a slew of interesting shops and shops, noosa is a hot spot for people who don't mind spending a little money. One of the nearest hot spots to Brisbane is southport. No matter where your interests lie, if you and your family love the beach then Brisbane is a premier place to spend a long vacation. A holiday to this part of Queensland is one that will never be forgotten.

Maria Tallchief, America's Most Famous Prima Ballerina

Although she became one of the most famous prima ballerinas in America, Maria Tallchief was a young girl much like many other young girls her age. She loved horses and exploring the wide, open spaces of nature. She was born in Oklahoma, the daughter of a Native American Indian Chief of the Osage Nation. Her mother had dreams for Maria and her sister, Marjorie, to become famous entertainers. When Maria was three, she was sent to ballet class. Even when she was young, she was already working very hard. Her days were filled with schoolwork and ballet and music lessons. She and her sister often performed at local events and rodeos.

In 1933, when Maria was eight, the family packed up the car and drove to Los Angeles to start a new life. Maria was amazed to see huge groves of orange trees and the Pacific Ocean, which scared her a bit, since she had never seen so much water before. Before she knew it, her mother had found a new place to live and a new ballet school, right in the neighborhood where they made their first stop after arriving in Los Angeles.

Maria never really committed to being a ballerina until she was twelve, when she began classes with the famous Russian ballerina named Bronisalva Nijinska, who had a powerful personality, and was a very demanding teacher. From her, Maria learned to be disciplined and precise and that being a dancer requires hard work. It was at this time that she made the choice to become a ballerina and dedicate herself to her art.

Her burning desire to dance brought her to many places, including Europe, where she danced with the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo and the Paris Opera. While she was in Europe, she met George Balanchine, a Russian choreographer. She became his wife, and they returned to America, where he founded the New York City Ballet. Maria became the company's first prima ballerina. She danced as many as eight performances a week, and her legend grew because she was such an energetic and powerful dancer. Balanchine created more than thirty-two ballets for her, including The Firebird, and the Sugarplum Fairy in the Nutcracker. The ballets she danced were very difficult, but her dancing looked effortless. Her complete devotion, discipline and hard work made her incredibly famous.

Tallchief danced with New York City Ballet until 1960, although she was a guest artist in the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo from 1955-1956, where she was paid the highest salary a dancer had ever received. In 1962She was Rudolph Nuryev's chosen partner for his first televised American performance after he defected from Russia. She continued to dance with New York City Ballet, American Ballet Theater and other groups until her retirement in 1965. The announcement of her retirement came as a shock, since she was only forty-one years old, but she made the decision to retire while she was still in her prime.

She chose to share her considerable knowledge and love of dance with other young dancers, teaching them to devote themselves with a single point of focus as dancers. She founded the Chicago City Ballet with her sister Marjorie in 1981, and served as artistic director there until 1987 and artistic advisor to Chicago Festival Ballet from 1990 through present day. She has received the Kennedy Center Honors and the National Medal of Arts from the National Endowment of the Arts in Washington D.C.

Creatures of the Night

Entertaining Read... Highly Recommended... 5 stars

The Review

Creatures of the Night begins as long shadows form, day is ending and night is soon to come. The moon and stars appear, daytime animals seek shelter and night creatures venture out. Raccoon, a regal barn owl, field mice, crickets, and singing toads and frogs all join the nighttime adventure. Dancing lightening bugs, a coyote, a mother opossum and her babies, and swimming muskrats walk and jump and run. At last the night creatures begin to seek safety, the sun is returning and day will soon begin.

Author Brooks and Illustrator Wilson have produced a delightful work for children. Creatures of the Night is a 32 page picture type work. The narrative is told in verse. Illustrations are child friendly.

I took the book to school to read to my fourth grade: they are my resident critics. They take their job as critical listeners very seriously. The children expressed curiosity, regard and interest in the book. They liked the poetry, the narrative and the illustrations. One girl felt the smiles on faces of the insects were inappropriate…. ‘real’ insects do not have smiley faces, however she felt the illustration was appropriate for this book, ‘it IS for little kids.’

While the target audience for the Creatures of the Night> is more targeted to the 3 – 7 set, it is a work that holds appeal to the 8 – 10 group as they choose a book to read to younger brothers and sisters. Creatures of the Night is a read-to for the younger set ages 3 – 7, a read alone for the 8 – 10 group.

I too enjoyed the narrative, the illustrations and the poetry. Because I live ‘out in the country’ the critters mentioned in this book are all very familiar to me. I am finding Creatures of the Night to be a worthwhile addition to our class library shelf. The book is being taken for ‘free reading’ time by youngsters who are reading and enjoying it for themselves as they ready themselves to read to the kindergarten children each Monday.

Creatures of the Night is a good addition to the homeschool reading curriculum, the classroom library and children’s personal reading shelf.

Enjoyed the read, happy to recommend.

Christmas With The Kranks (Movie Review)

Based on the best-selling John Grisham novel titled Skipping Christmas, Christmas With The Kranks resembles the book in almost every facet save for the title. Starring Tim Allen and Jamie Lee Curtis, Christmas With The Kranks is an instant Christmas holiday classic. Although not in the same league of Yule tide comedy gems Christmas Vacation and A Christmas Story, this film ranks high on my list of holiday laughers. The supporting cast (led by perpetual funnyman Dan Aykroyd) turns in a superb performance, making Christmas With The Kranks an easy film to relate to and one you'll want to see many times in the years to come...

When the college-age daughter of the Kranks joins the Peace Corps and flies to South America for Christmas, her mother battles with a case of the empty nest blues. But her father, accountant Luther Krank (Tim Allen), takes advantage of the opportunity to shake things up a bit. Tallying all the money he and his wife Nora (Jamie Lee Curtis) spend on Christmas, he determines that if they skip Christmas this year, they can afford to go on a week-long cruise instead and still pocket three thousand dollars in savings at the end of the trip.

But skipping Christmas turns out to be more difficult than they thought - especially when it comes to participating in neighborhood traditions such as the mounting of the roof-bound 'Frosties' (giant snowmen all the neighbors plant on their roofs). The neighborhood struggle over the Kranks' reluctance to put up their Frosty leads to some memorable and quite funny scenes where the couple encounters Vic Frohmeyer (Dan Aykroyd), the de facto leader of the neighborhood Christmas celebration. The Kranks continue to avoid all things Christmas related, and having visiting the tanning salon, they're prepared to go on their cruise Christmas Eve.

But when their daughter Blair (Julie Gonzalo) calls with the announcement that she's getting married, and more importantly, that she's on a plane bound for home - the Kranks are forced to miss their cruise and recreate all the festivities of Christmas Past for Blair and her fiancée. But attempting to do a whole month's preparation in one evening proves to be a monumental task, and one filled with hilarious pitfalls and obstacles...

Offering hilarious scene after hilarious scene, Christmas With The Kranks is one of the funniest comedies in years, and certainly one of the top ten Christmas comedies of all time. At no time does the humor become outlandish or utterly ridiculous as so many such films tend to do. Overall, one of the more lovable aspects of this film is its ability to relate to so many American families. In fact, you might see a bit of your own family in Christmas With The Kranks... The fact that it's one of those rare holiday classics with the potential to be seen year after year makes Christmas With The Kranks a definite must-see movie...
