Mucha Lucha was the first television program to employ Flash animation--a lively and visually pleasing process well-known on the Internet. This DVD collection of episodes from the WB cartoon series is primarily targeted toward Latino boys but will appeal to any animation fanatic with its bold lines, skewed geometry, and frantic energy. Three protagonists, young Rikochet, Buena Girl, and the Flea, train at the International School of Lucha, where kids wear facial disguises, adhere to the code of Masked Mexican Wrestlers, catch a lot of flak from the principal, and wrestle the bad students as a form of punishment. Back home, our heroes apply the rules of "Lucha Libre" to liberating their own neighborhood from assorted villains. Violent and maddening after a bit, Heart of Lucha is helped mightily by clipped wit reminiscent of The Powerpuff Girls. --Tom Keogh
