Desert Hills (Black Sage, Oliver)

Brothers Randy and Jesse Toor recently founded Desert Hills Estate Winery after having planted land on the Black Sage Bench with vinifera. This is a family-run winery is located in a building not specified by the substantial house next to it (Space is to be sure, turn left people!).

Wines:

Production Desert Hills' as others on the Black Sage, is focused primarily on red wines. The estate is popular among a strange mixture of wine varietiesSyrah.

Desert Hills Estate Winery currently produces:

Young Chardonnay 2005

2005 Pinot Grigio

2005 Gamay Noir

2003 Meritage

Syrah 2003 (regular and select)

Notes on Tastings:

Like all Okanagan Wineries, Desert Hills gets busy in summer. Parking is not too abundant, and the entrance is narrow. Tastings are free, but ID is required for persons who are under 25 years. The tasting room is small and fairly standard, and staff(At least when we were there) was polite, if not too friendly. Tours are offered throughout the summer.

Last word:

If you need more time to stop. They make some fabulous wines and are a simple visit from the Black Sage Road.

Burrowing Owl Estate Winery is just minutes down the road, and when looking for spectacular scenery, risk, because so much.
